One of my favorite cookbooks is an old volume called "America Cooks: The General Federation of Women's Clubs Cook Book". It has such a wealth of recipes that whenever I'm making a standard dish that I've never made before, or don't have a "favorite" recipe for, I flip through this book to get an idea of where to start. This has helped me with cookies, waffles, dips and soups. There are so many recipes that it makes it good reference to have around when you don't want to have to sift through thousands of Google results for something simple.

Great post. I learned some very valuable information from it. I've been trying out some new Asian recipes lately and am having a great time experimenting with them. Do you have a favorite cookbook? If you'd like to see my blog it's here. Thanks again for this blog - it is really well-done.

I think that if you just leave out the allspice berries it should be fine. You might also try cloves.

I think you can use any kind of cucumbers. I've tried with two types. It will change the final product, but I'm sure it will be just as delicious. Does anyone else know?

Hi Sarah, nice post you have out here :)
I feel like to try this recipe, but there are a few questions, if you do not mind. Here are some:
1. Is there an alternative to the allspice berries?
2. Is this pickles can use any kind of cucumbers?
Thank you :).
